The Story Behind the Movement

About Kat Wasiel

Movement has always been my way of understanding people, stories, and creative expression. Through creative movement direction in Queensland, I bring together performance, screen storytelling, education, and strategic thinking to explore physical narratives.

My screen experience includes professional acting on set, alongside writing and directing independent films. It gives me an understanding of performance from both sides of the camera.
Whether guiding performers, supporting productions, or developing creative concepts, every project begins with understanding its unique story.

My Approach

Movement with Purpose & Intention

Every creative journey with me begins with listening deeply, moving intentionally, and honouring the story waiting to be expressed.

Understanding the Story

Every performance begins by listening to the story beneath the script. Before any choreography is developed, I explore the physical world your character inhabits. As a dedicated creative movement consultant in Queensland, I consider the character’s psychology, historical context, and emotional world before developing movement.

This foundational research ensures the physical vocabulary I eventually build is profoundly rooted in truth, helping the body express the story naturally.

Building Authentic Performance

Stage presence requires physical confidence. The repetition of stylised gestures doesn’t work well. Through my specialised artist coaching in Queensland, I guide vocalists and actors to discover their unique physical signatures.

I work on technique, breath, and musicality, helping performers develop greater confidence and control. By stripping away artificial habits, I help performers recognise habitual patterns and develop movement that feels natural to them.

Collaborative Process

Working alongside directors, designers, and performers, I ensure movement supports the wider creative vision. Being a passionate theatre movement coach in Queensland, I create a safe, inclusive environment where performers can explore physicality with confidence.

Whether we are crafting a captivating stage musical or designing an evocative brand activation, I remain closely engaged throughout the entire creative process.

Movement for Camera & Stage

The camera and stage require different approaches to physical performance. My experience as a film movement coach in Queensland informs how I approach movement for screen.

Drawing gracefully from Butoh and diverse Asian traditions, I design physical languages that photograph beautifully and resonate deeply on screen. For the stage, I amplify these nuanced expressions to command large theatrical spaces.

Creative Practice

Multidisciplinary Creative Services

Three disciplines, one creative language – movement expressed through stage, sound, and style.

Movement Direction

I am building my movement direction practice in Brisbane, working with actors, productions, and creative teams to develop physical language for characterisation across stage and screen. Working with actors and productions, I curate movement vocabulary based on Butoh, Afro-Latin, and Pan-Asian traditions.

Private Lessons

As a stage movement coach in Queensland, I deliver one-to-one sessions for singers and actors through Music Roof Music School. The focus is helping performers move beyond technical accuracy towards a more connected performance.

Creative Consultation

I aspire to bring fashion storytelling to stage and screen, exploring how movement and costume design transform garments into expressive performance on film sets, runways, and future brand campaigns. This emerging area of my practice explores how physical expression can add depth, energy, and storytelling to visual concepts.
